Get your sexy back?

Dec 13th, 2011 | By | Category: Anti Aging For Men, News

Anti-aging treatments are flooding the marketplace due to customer demand and ads and billboards with the slogan “Get your sexy back,” with attractive people between the ages of 30 to 50 and older, are posed beside the slogan, “get your sexy back.” Antiaging is Everywhere. Is it possible to “Get your sexy back?” I’d have to say yes to the question based on personal experiences but, if you still have doubts, read on.

Dr. Kim Zipper, doctor and entrepreneur, graduate of the University of Miami medical school, board-certified anesthesiologist, trained in anti-aging medicine, and owner of the Fountain of You.  The Fountain of You is an antiaging center in Florida offering age management treatments to patients wanting to get back to the way they used to feel. In other words, they are seeking to “get your sexy back. “  “Live more, age less, ” is the theory promoted by the Fountain of You to promote their age management services. Dr. Zipper was interviewed recently by Matt Reed of Florida Today. What follows is an excerpt from that TV interview by Mr. Reed.  In this interview, Dr. Zipper defines anti-aging medicine and explains some of the services they offer and why.  Dr. Zipper defines antiaging as the practice of preventing disease before it happens, slowing the aging process and making the senior years more healthy.

“How did you decide to switch specialties to this?

I did anesthesia for 15 years, and I kept seeing the same patients over and over again, on many of the same medications. Medications to lower your blood pressure, drop your blood sugar, lower your cholesterol. And many of those same patients were also on antidepressants.

It occurred to me that many of the surgeries we were doing could have been prevented with a healthier lifestyle, exercise and a better diet.

I just felt I wasn’t helping patients as well as I could have. I spent a lot of the morning starting the IV, talking about how they eat and exercise.

Where do you start with a new patient?

The most common patient who comes in is a woman in menopause or a man in andropause. We do a huge lab panel, about 24 labs, looking at their starting blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol, thyroid and hormone levels. Then we sit down with them for two to three hours and go over every single lab. My goal is to teach a patient what is a normal and abnormal, and how to change before disease occurs.

You can dramatically change the aging process with diet, exercise, supplements and hormones.

What are the top treatments patients seek in Brevard?

The most common procedure we do, and the most affordable procedure, is Botox. For aesthetics, it’s probably the thing that makes the most difference.

Explain hormone replacement.

That’s controversial, the hormone replacement. But to me, it’s not controversial. It’s normal to lose your hormones and normal to not to be alive at 50 or 60 without antibiotics and shelter. It’s not normal to live to be 115 without hormones. So, if you don’t replace your hormones, you’re going to live half your life without them.

Our most common patient is a 50-plus-year-old woman in menopause, sweating, not sleeping, irritable, anxious. A lot of these women feel better with hormone replacement.

The most common male symptom of andropause is they’re tired, not getting the same gains at the gym, not feeling as creative. Most men who replace their testosterone feel much better.

We’ll get 33-year-old men with very low testosterone levels, much lower than 70- or 80-year-olds. Part of that is stress, lifestyle, a diet high in synthetic foods.

What do you mean by “synthetic?”

If you look at our grocery stores, three-quarters of it is processed, synthetic foods — the chip aisle, the bread aisle, the candy aisle, the cracker aisle, the protein-bar aisle. Those are all highly processed foods made of wheat, corn and soy, all of which are difficult to digest.

How much does hormone therapy cost?

Since I don’t take any insurance, it will cost a patient $2,500, and I’ll take care of that patient from seven months to a year.

Studies on supplements have concluded we’re not likely to live longer if we take them. But you advocate them.

I’m a huge supporter. I talk to patients whose primary-care doctors tell them it’s a waste of money or time. But it’s not true. I think many patients after 40 have mild deficiencies. There are studies out there that suggest that thyroid decline could be a zinc and selenium deficiency. So I say, for $24 a month, take a good multivitamin. It makes sense.”

Looks like we have yet another expert supporting the latest research in anti-aging theory – that aging is related to hormone loss. Who doesn’t want to “get their sexy back?” Fix it, change your lifestyle by adding exercise, stress management and real food and you will make it beyond andropause and finally “get your sexy back.”
